about

This is one I've been working on for a while... I'm probably going to try and come up with a different arrangement, but I decided to finish up this version first.

What is it about? I guess it's about people from your past, childhood, that had some effect on you, and recognizing that they were simply who they were.

lyrics

i had no intention of coming home for dinner
while you were singing such a tragic melody
and at the party, where you proclaimed your love
i saw you dreaming on the bathroom floor

and the strangest thing of all
the color of your eyes
like some unknown foreign flag
on a diplomat's lapel

like a ranger in some god-forsaken land
monster forestry was all you had to do
counting bones, and piecing them together
cataloging all the maladies of man

and in the hours when your cynicism slept
it seemed like day had come
to devour one who's only sense of power
was in a highball glass

at the bottom of the well you kept your heart in
was there serenity that made your tongue so cool?
parceled out like a box of yellowed postcards
it reads nothing like my blistered memories

maybe you needed a sympathetic touch?
or to be left alone?
it wasn't easy to think of you as such,
as a person all your own

i had no intention of ever coming home again
while you were screaming such a tragic melody
one more wrong, i could have left unpunished
one more treason, waiting inside your door
